SHANDONG, sulphur

The Chinese sulphur print fell 8.9% in a single move, from 8,639.25 CNY/t to 7,869 CNY/t, near 1,175 USD/t. That is the sharpest one-day drop on the line this quarter and it arrives while phosphate holds firm: DAP unchanged at 800 USD/t, urea unchanged at 450.75 USD/t. For the Gulf granular sellers shipping into Chinese and Indian phosphate plants, the destination price has moved and the raw-material margin at the far end of the voyage has widened. Q4 tonnage talks reopen on new arithmetic.

THE GULF, crude and products

Brent settled at 107.32 USD/bbl, up 6.0% from 101.21, after the shutdown of an attacked Saudi pipeline that carries what amounts to 4% of world oil supply. The refined end stayed calm and slightly lower: ULSD at 4.7694 USD/gal, off 0.7%, RBOB at 3.162 USD/gal, off 1.5%. Crude leading products by seven percentage points in a day is a war-premium signature rather than a demand one, and it lands directly on freight insurance for anything lifting east of Suez.

PARIS, corn and wheat

US agricultural attachés now expect France to bring in its smallest corn crop in 50 years, with prolonged drought cutting output across the EU. European feed buyers short of maize reach first for wheat, which closed at 718 USc/bu, up 0.9% at roughly 264 USD/t. Black Sea sellers have the freight advantage into the Mediterranean; North African millers reading the same attaché note will price their next tenders against a thinner EU feed balance.

LUSAKA, the kwacha and the maize

The kwacha weakened to K19 to the dollar, which reprices every imported input in the farming budget, fertiliser and diesel first. In the same week the Livingstone Cooperatives Union asked whether the Kenya maize deal will pay growers more than Food Reserve Agency rates, the government restated a 10 million tonne maize target for 2031, and the farmers' union said irrigation is the binding constraint on reaching 1 million tonnes of wheat by the same year. Export pull and a weaker currency arrive together.

KINSHASA, the domestic bid

The Congolese Treasury raised 86 million dollars at 8% on 8 September in local-currency paper, cabinet adopted a deposit guarantee fund, and money supply passed 51,000 billion CDF with private credit still expanding. Domestic funding at that cost changes how Kinshasa negotiates with mining counterparties. Cobalt eased 1.3% to 42,380 USD/t; COMEX copper fell 6.3% to 6.378 USD/lb, near 14,061 USD/t, its worst session in weeks.

HAWTHORNE, compute contracts

A single unnamed AI compute customer has reportedly signed with SpaceX at 1.11 billion dollars per month from 1 December, alongside reported arrangements of 1.25 billion a month with Anthropic and 920 million a month with Google. Three contracts, 3.28 billion dollars of monthly revenue, and a power and cooling bill that competes for the same turbines, transformers and copper as everyone else.

Filed late. Baltic Dry fell 62 points to 3,445. Guinea's state-owned Nimba Mining and Glencore signed a bauxite pre-financing and offtake deal above 300 million dollars, with alumina and energy talks following. Covestro, Fertiglobe and MB Energy signed an MoU on an ammonia supply chain. Cargill inaugurated a fertiliser plant at Nueva Palmira, Uruguay. Riyadh claims 110 million tonnes of uranium-bearing ore. Chilean copper mining inventories rose 2.4% in July. China-Africa trade gap widened to 80.07 billion dollars over January to August. Sugar #11 at 18.91 USc/lb, up 2.8%.
